About Us
The Suncoast Singers was formed in September 2006 as a
community choir of the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia through the
combined efforts of Musical Director Joy McLeod and
long-time Sunshine Coast resident Pat Lilly.
Membership of this adult mixed choir include recent converts
to the pleasures of choral singing as well as experienced
vocalists and instrumentalists.
The choir's premier performance was a Christmas concert
entitled "A Christmas Celebration" in December 2006, with a
varied selection of sacred and secular Christmas music at the Lutheran Church in Davis Bay, BC.
This successful debut was followed by a concert in 2007
fittingly called "A World of Music" with songs from various countries. Choral numbers
were
punctuated with solo performances.
Music Director Joy McLeod is a new resident of the Sunshine Coast, having moved from Victoria where she directed and accompanied several choirs for mixed, male or female voices. She is a graduate of Brandon University.
Edith Troup joined the Suncoast Singers in September 2007 as our accompanist. She obtained her Bachelor of Music from Queen's University in Kingston Ontario where she studied piano and clarinet.
Membership in this choir has many benefits. It provides an opportunity
for increased musical knowledge, development of personal singing abilities
and improved health through enhanced respiratory function.
Also, the choir is a venue for meeting some terrific people.
We look forward to contributing to the community by providing stimulating performances, involvement with local charitable organizations and participation in
local events.
Rehearsals are held at the Sechelt Arts Centre on Thursdays
from 7:15 to 9:15 pm.
